It typically takes 5-7 hrs to perform a pre-purchase
survey for a small boat up to 30’, including the sea trial
and survey report. However, the time it takes to perform a survey
increases in relation to a vessel’s age, condition, size,
complexity of systems, and type of survey required. Use the following
chart as a guide to our typical fees. Please call us for a free

Minimum charge for a survey is $450.
*Pre-purchase surveys include a visual inspection,
and idle and load testing of gasoline and small diesel engines.
Pyrometer readings are also recorded. Prior to a pre-purchase survey,
we recommend that the buyer obtain all applicable service records
from the seller.
The vessel's engine(s) and systems should also
be serviced and commissioned by a qualified marine technician and
readied for the survey. Charged batteries must be onboard as well
as access to shore power. All interior spaces should be cleaned
and neatly organized and the bilge should be clean and dry.
**sailboats only
Oil analysis is available for $50.
Cylinder compression testing on gas engines is
offered for $150.
In the case of a diesel engine survey beyond visual
inspection, we recommend it be performed by a qualified diesel engine
surveyor.
Damage surveys are typically performed on an hourly
basis at $85/hr.
Travel expenses may be applicable depending on
the vessel’s location.
